Lab Report

There are many reasons to write a lab report. A lab report is a complete analysis of a science experiment. The report is broken down into sections making it clear for the reader. A lab report starts with an abstract that briefly summarizes what will take place. The report contains an introduction which explains to the readers what will take place, it also provides background information about the experiment.  The method sections I believe is the most important part of a lab report because it informs the readers what is required for the experiment and how to do the experiment. Lastly, it contains a conclusion where it shows if the experiment was supported by the data or not. if there were any errors that took place during the experiment it is explained in the conclusion section.

The author of “Constructing a Private Cloud for Government IT Services Consolidation – Taiwan’s Experience” started the lab report with an abstract by giving readers an idea of what the experiment will do. In the introduction, he stated why they were doing the experiment and what will they be doing, he also explained why doing this experiment is very important and also how important it is by showing how the government is willing to help. The introduction also included a closing statement which stated the dangers done to the environment if this experiment wasn’t done. This is how the author organized the introduction. Chi-Fu Hung included a section called “Related Works”. Here the author stated all the work was done that is related to the experiment itself. The paragraph shows what this experiment will achieve if done correctly. The author backed his experiment with all the advantages. Section three  “constructing a private cloud in Taiwan EPA”, this section is basically the method section of any lab report. Once again the author started the paragraph stating how important it is for this project. It was shown by providing facts and explaining how it will help people and the environment. One thing I liked about this section is as the author was explaining the steps of performing this experiment he also included diagrams and pictures which actually shows the experiment being done. The author showed a complete understanding of the topic. The method section was very clear that anyone with the right amount of required tools could perform this experiment not just by reading but by following the pictures properly. The pictures help the researchers perform this experiment because it lets them visualize what they need to do to perform the experiment correctly. A section that I also liked was the “benefits on EPA” here the author pointed out all the pros this experiment will achieve. However, I believe the author should have added the cons section too by showing maybe the errors or misunderstanding which took place during the experiment. In the last section “Conclusion and Further work” here the author restated the introduction once again and started it off by showing the importance of this project. Chi-Fu Hung stated that there is more work to be done as the experiment is not complete. He also stated all the errors which were faced during this experiment. The author ended the report by telling the readers what work needed to be done in the future in order to improve this experiment. One thing I liked about this part is honesty, which is very important because being honest helps you win people’s trust which will give your experiment more value. One thing that really stood out to me about this lab report was how the author started all his paragraphs by showing how this experiment is beneficial for the environment

Development of the DC Controlled Current Source for the DC-bias Experiment of large-scale Power Transformer is a lab report which is similar to the last lab report even though they talk about two different experiments they both follow the same basic structure. F. H. Wang, z.J. Jin, one of the authors of this lab report, also started the report with an abstract explaining what this report will hold. The introduction of this lab report is very different from the last one because the author of Development of the DC Controlled Current Source for the DC-bias Experiment of large-scale Power Transformer jumps right into the main idea with facts and how they will be performing the experiment. In the second section, Wang states all the effects here Wang also states the Method step by step. Wang explained very well how to perform the experiment. Next, he moved right into the conclusion.

These two lab reports are very different from each other because the first one is very detailed and shows the importance of this experiment. The method sections of the first lab report were on point because it was informative. The language of the first lab report grabs more attention from the audience because the author was very informative and honest. Also, he mentioned all the errors that could have been done during the experiment. However, the second lab report that I read was very informal to me. The author of the second lab report was not very informative. I believe that he will lose the audience’s interests because he failed to mention any errors made in the experiment. He made it sound like it was perfect but I believe that every experiment has some flaws and you have to mention them in order to show a complete understanding of the topic. It is important to admit when you make mistakes and to own up to them.
