Self Assessment

Writing for engineers gave me a totally different perspective on writing. I have written various different kinds of papers throughout my freshman year of college. This course helped me understand how to write a professional essay for an engineer.  Something I learned from this course is, you must be truthful, honest, and mindful about your audience. It is important to be truthful and honest because it will get the attention of your audience. My goal for this semester was for my readers to understand the invention. I wrote my papers in a way so all my readers can understand. For my technical description, I was very visual explaining how a power bank is made, I believe people learn and understand better if they are provided with visual examples. I targeted someone who is willing to make a power bank. It taught me how to explain equipment like an engineer in-depth and understandable for everyone. Another thing I learned from this course is how important a  lab report is, lab reports are complete analysis of a science experiment. The report is broken down into sections making it clear for the reader. A lab report starts with an abstract that briefly summarizes what will take place. The report contains an introduction which explains to the readers what will take place, it is also very important to back up the experiment with reasonable data. This really improved my writing style, made me think more technically and in a  business sense. I have to make sure my audience understand the invention and are willing to buy it. Although there are different types of lab reports, I learned how to write an engineering lab report. It is a different kind of lab report because there is a technical description explaining in full detail.

This semester due to the pandemic we were forced to do remort learning. Remort learning, was very difficult, catching information was hard. We also had to do group work which I believe was the best part of this course. Working on this project helped me with communication skills. This thaught me how to communicate professionally in a work environment, when writing this paper I came to understand that it is very important to value your peers’ work, commitment, and opinions. It was challenging at first because we all had different writing styles and opinions about the project. I learned to collaborate by work and to work as a team. Having this skill sets is very important in the engineering field. This experience was the best because it truly taught me how to fit in a professional field and work with people around me. Working with my group I have also learned a few things from them like how to do vedio editing little CAD.  It was a really good experiment, just like in a work environment we all have room for improvement and we all can learn something from each other.

Another important thing I picked up from this course is how important research and annotation is. These are the backbone and foundation of your paper. I have done most of my research from the cuny database. Finding necessary information from the online library I believe is the best potion because the features help us filter our search and finds the best suitable information for your paper. The databases also give us the proper citation. Doing research makes it a lot easier. Throughout the school year, I picked up some tricks learned how to use google scholars, engineering village. All the information acquired from this website information is never biased. In this class, I also learned something about the writing process. Everyone has their writing process. My process is to work alone at night, I plan to wait until the very last minute, I also eat while I am working helps me think better. One thing I figured that it is very difficult for me to write everything at one sitting, I write parts of my paper at night when everyone is sleeping so no one is distracting me, I like to work at complete peace.
